Everyday Blood Spots on Carpet in Vancouver
This page is about ordinary household spots, like nosebleeds, small cuts and scraped knees. Mountain View Carpet Care is a carpet cleaning company, not a biohazard or trauma cleanup service.
Why blood is different from other spills
Blood is a protein stain. Heat makes proteins bond to fibers, which is why hot water is the wrong first move on a fresh blood spot at home. It is also why older spots are harder: once blood has dried and darkened, it holds on much tighter.
What to do right away
- Blot up as much as you can with a white cloth or paper towel.
- Dampen the spot with cold water and keep blotting. Do not use hot water.
- Work from the outside in so the spot does not spread.
- Avoid hydrogen peroxide or bleach unless you have tested a hidden area. They can lighten the carpet itself and leave a pale patch.
For other kinds of spots, see our carpet stain removal page for Clark County.
Blood Stain Questions
Can dried blood come out of carpet?
Often it can be lightened a lot, and smaller spots may come out completely. Blood that has dried for a long time, or that was set with hot water, is harder and may leave a faint mark.
Should I use hot or cold water on blood?
Cold. Heat helps blood bond to carpet fibers, so hot water can set a fresh stain. Blot with cold water and a white cloth.
Do you handle biohazard cleanup?
No. Mountain View Carpet Care handles everyday household spots like nosebleeds and small cuts. Larger incidents need a specialized biohazard cleanup company.

What We Do
How Rich Treats Blood Stains in Walnut Grove, Meadow Glade and Beyond
Because heat can set blood, the order of the steps matters. A typical visit looks like this.
- Walk-through. Rich looks at the spots and asks how old they are and what has been used on them.
- Pre-treatment. Blood spots are pre-treated with a product chosen for what caused them, so they are loosened before the carpet is rinsed.
- Hot water extraction. Truck-mounted equipment rinses the carpet and extracts what has been loosened.
- Post spot treatment. Anything still showing gets another treatment.
- pH balanced finish. The carpet is not left sticky, which helps it stay cleaner longer.
Fresh spots usually come out well. Old, dark spots may lighten without disappearing, and Rich will tell you honestly what to expect before he starts. We stand behind our work and will make it right if you’re not satisfied.
