Makeup Stains in Clark County Homes: Why They Hang On
Makeup is made to stay put on skin, and that is exactly what makes it hard to get out of carpet. Most products combine oils or waxes with strong pigments, so you are dealing with a greasy stain and a color stain at the same time.
Common culprits
- Liquid foundation and concealer are oily and spread easily into the fibers.
- Lipstick and lip balm are waxy. Pressing on them works the wax deeper into the pile.
- Mascara and eyeliner are dark and often water-resistant.
- Powder, blush and eyeshadow look alarming but are usually the easiest, as long as they are vacuumed up dry before anything wet touches them.
- Nail polish hardens fast and is one of the hardest to get out.
- Self-tanner and hair dye are dyes, and they can stain carpet fibers the way they stain skin and hair.
Before Rich comes out
Lift off as much as you can with a dull knife or spoon, then blot. Vacuum loose powder before adding any liquid. Do not pour nail polish remover on the carpet without testing it on a hidden area first, since acetone can damage some carpet fibers and backings. And try not to rub, which smears pigment into a bigger patch.

What We Do
How Rich Removes Makeup From Carpet in Vancouver
Rich starts by asking what was spilled and what has been tried on it, then works through it in this order.
- Remove what is on top. Any dried product sitting on the fibers is lifted off first.
- Pre-treat for the oil or wax. The spot gets a product chosen for what caused it.
- Hot water extraction. Truck-mounted equipment rinses the area and pulls out loosened product.
- Post spot treatment. Anything still showing after the rinse gets another treatment.
- Walk-through. Rich goes over the result with you before he leaves.
Foundation, lipstick and mascara usually respond well. Nail polish, self-tanner and hair dye are harder, and they may lighten without fully coming out. Rich will give you an honest read before he starts. We stand behind our work and will make it right if you’re not satisfied.

Makeup Stain FAQ
Can lipstick be removed from carpet?
Usually, yes. Lipstick is waxy, so the first step is lifting off what is on top without pressing it in. A pre-treatment and hot water rinse then work on the oils and color left in the fibers.
Should I use nail polish remover on carpet?
Be careful. Acetone can damage some carpet fibers and backings. If you try it, test a hidden spot first and blot. Otherwise, leave it for Rich to look at.
Will hair dye or self-tanner come out of carpet?
These are dyes, and they can stain fibers deeply. They often lighten with treatment but may not disappear completely, especially if they have set for a while.
